Having a great hairstyle would always makes you stand out. – Just ask me; people are always complimenting mine. However, even the best hairstyle won’t get you very far unless you take the proper steps to keep it healthy and in good condition, especially during this time of the year.
Most guys know it’s essential to keep the skin moisturized to protect it from the harsh cold weather, but few realize their hair and scalp are no different. That’s why I spoke with Jason Schneidman, Dove Men+Care Expert and “The Men’s Groomer”, and got some pointers on how to take care of your hair and scalp this winter.
GROW YOUR HAIR OUT
For Fall-Winter 2014 the longer you can have your hair the better. Stay away from the barber haircut and step into more of a salon hairstyle or what I like to call it: the “movie star haircut”.
WASH IT OFF
I always say to wait a couple of days to shampoo your hair. Make sure to know the specific needs of your hair and go from there… If your hair is fine use a product that strengthens and makes hair look and feel thicker like Dove Men+Care Thickening Fortifying Shampoo, which is proven to make hair 3X stronger and was specifically developed to care for fine and thin hair.
TO CONDITION OR NOT TO CONDITION
Men often believe they shouldn’t condition their hair especially if it’s short. But in fact, they should! Conditioners keep your hair soft, moisturized and most importantly keep your scalp healthy. That’s why you should use a product that has conditioner already built in, for example, Dove Men+Care Fresh Clean Fortifying 2-in-1. This shampoo and conditioner’s formula is infused with caffeine and menthol and was developed specifically to care for oily hair.
POMADE ON, POMADE OFF
There are a lot of hair products you can use to style your hair: wax, pomade, paste, gel among others. But during the winter, when most of us wear hats, the best option is to use pomade… You can style it dry; it will keep your hairstyle in place at the same time offers versatility. – You can rework your hair into another style without having to add more paste.
TRIM IT
In order to maintain a flawless hairstyle, you should consider getting your hair cut every 3 to 6 weeks. Otherwise, it loses its shape and becomes harder to style and manage it.
MAD HATTER
Wearing winter hats its OK. . I like when guys create their own style, besides they don’t break the hair as much as a baseball cap. Just stick to natural fibers such as wool to avoid hat hair and overheating the scalp.
DRY SCALP
Avoid a shriveled, flaky scalp by keeping it moisturized by using the right shampoo, specifically developed to care for dry and sensitive scalps while gently cleansing and conditioning.
BLOWOUT
I’m big on blow-drying. However, make sure you keep the heat moving. Do not stay too long in the same spot. Here’s a tip: use in the front to give your hairstyle volume.
GOOD HAIR, GREAT HAIRSTYLE
In conclusion, the key to having good hair is to use the right product to keep your hair healthy. Trying different styles until you find what works better for your hair type and head shape is fundamental to have a great hairstyle. #effortlesscool
